Take me out into the black

tell them I ain't comin' back

12/16/07 05:31 pm - [info]in_the_mod - Making contact...

Who: Arthur ot Serenity
What: a wave from the Black

Arthur had gotten the message that his goddaughter needed to speak to him, through some very convoluted channels. It had taken him a bit longer to get to a secure channel together that he could contact her from. He didn't want to endanger either her or himself in the process of making contact.

This whole business with D'Arkan was just getting too close for comfort. Since he'd left the employ of the Alliance, Arthur had spent a good deal of time trying to lay low and keep a careful distance from what he'd learned during his employ.

And now, that careful wall of protection was crumbling.

"Pick up, Serenity, pick up.." he muttered. He wasn't sure how much time he'd have.

12/1/07 08:35 pm - [info]coredocsimon - Doctors' Meeting

Simon had called a meeting of medical types from the other ships. It had been his idea. Well, it had been Mal's idea to get the captains together, but Simon figured that it would be a good idea to get the medics together as well, and for a similar reason ... to share knowledge and figure things out.

So, while Mal was waiting in the kitchen, Simon was in sick bay, waiting for the other ship's doctors to arrive.

12/1/07 08:24 pm - [info]mal_content - Captain's Meeting

Mal had passed the following by message to the captains of the Walden, the Starflare and the Jupiter:

"We need to sit down and figure things out. Come over to the ship in the morning and we'll talk about our current situation and how to not die as a result of it. If you need more incentive, there will be food."

It was now the next morning, and Mal was in the kitcen, finishing up a batch of Serenity stew, trying not to give too much thought to the fact that he now had two earnestly-sought fugitives on board the ship. Pursuit of River had tapered off lately, anyway; maybe this just meant that life wouldn't be much different, after all. Still, there were times when Mal almost wanted a quiet life running groceries for Book's order.

He tasted the stew; added a little salt. Perfect. The other captains should be here any time, now.

11/23/07 08:17 pm - [info]samina_chang - The oldest profession in the 'verse...

Who: Samina OT Walden crew
Where: Her room on the Walden

Samina was feeling more than a little bit strange. She had once vowed never to go back to being a full companion, yet not so long ago she had freely suggested that she return to the business by way of helping the Walden find extra work.

This wasn't like her, not at all.

Samina had rarely felt a sense of loyalty to anything or anyone. Her whole life up until last year had been about fulfilling expectations laid out by her family a long time ago. She had been the dutiful daughter and set out to be a companion, as her brother had followed in their father's footsteps and become a fine doctor in a good core hospital. She had had her whole life planned out for her by two parents who had barely shown her an ounce of affection, and here she was, showing her love to the crew who were her family of choice, by doing something she certainly did not want to do.

It hadn't been a terribly hard decidion to make; Samina had a skill that she could use to assist people that she cared about. Where was the complication in that? She could certainly numb her mind to the life of a Companion for a short while at any rate.

What grated against her was the facial expressions she had seen on Karin and on Phoebe at her suggestion. She knew in her heart of hearts that she was not a whore, nor would ever be one. However, people's perceptions were hard to ignore, especially of those she cared about, and the last thing she wanted was for the crew of the Walden to treat her any differently, or to think bad of her.

And thus she felt the weight of the 'Verse on her shoulders.

Pacing her room, wondering whether her company would be appreciated on the ship now, Samina pondered on how people would react as the news spread. And more importantly, how she was going to make contact with her first client in over 2 years. This was not going to be easy by any means.

11/16/07 01:24 am - [info]jupiter_jenny - Contemplating the next step

Michael was looking kinda blah, thinking about the circumstances of things. "What're we going to do, Jenny?" he asked.

"About -- all of this?" Jenny said, with a vague gesture. "I'm not sure..."

Michael nodded. "I mean, it's not really our problem, right? We could just.. go somewhere else."

"We could," Jenny agreed. "But..."

She stretched a bit. "I don't know. I guess we really could just ignore it. I'm not sure I really want to, though.'

Michael frowned. He was afraid of this. "What do you want to do?" he asked.

"That's just it ... I'm not entirely sure." Jenny chuckled. "It's exciting..."

"If by exciting you mean disturbing and dangerous, yeah," Michael said.

"Mm." Jenny sensed this conversation wasn't going to make either of them happier, and shook her head. "Where would we go, then?"

"I don't know.. I mean, I guess we should help, right?" He knew she wanted to.

"Morally? Yes." Jenny shook her head a bit.

"And you like everyone, right?" Michael asked. He kinda thought they were okay too, well, as much as he thought any people not-Jenny were okay.

"Yeah. And I don't want them to get killed or anything... and... I don't know. This just smacks of adventure and danger," Jenny said.

"And you miss those, don't you?" Michael said quietly.

"A bit," Jenny admitted.

"Okay then," Michael said.

"Hmm?" Jenny tilted her head.

"Let's stick around." Michael thought that was a scary prospect- but he wanted Jenny to be happy.

Jenny nodded. "Alright, then... and if we can't help, we'll move on soon enough."

"It's a plan, then," Michael said, trying to be brave about it. He hugged Jenny, and settled in to try and relax.

Jenny hugged Michael. "I'm sorry."

"It's okay," Michael said. "I understand."

"This isn't exactly a fightercraft," Jenny added, patting the hull affectionately. "I should probably just do the sensible thing and fly like hell."

"Well.. we don't have to fight, right?" Michael asked. "We can help in other ways?"

"Right," Jenny nodded. "As soon as we figure out what that is."

"I guess we'll have to ask," Michael said.

"Yeah... let's." Jenny hugged Michael. "Will you be okay?"

"As long as I'm with you," Michael said.

"Then you'll be fine," Jenny agreed.

11/13/07 09:50 pm - [info]nutty_doctor - Murals, Idiots, Doctors, and a Captain

Who: Shay and Leah
Where: Starflare, Medbay

Shay stalked down to the med bay, having a lot on his mind and wanting to see if the Doc could make some sense out of the medical end of what he was pondering.

Leah was in her office, starting work on her mural. The only patient she had had that day was a man with a cold, who seemed to think that it was the flu and going to be the death of him. She sent the hypochondriac away with some cough syrup and telling him to come back tomorrow if he was still feeling bad. With the free time, she had donned her smock and was standing on a chair and drawing the outline of the heart on the picked out wall.

11/13/07 03:39 pm - [info]phoebe_tunstall - Stocked and Shunned

Who: Phoebe OT Walden crew
Where: Walden - engine room

Phoebe was still trying to process what it had been that Samina had suggested to the Captain. Every time she thought about the concept of an actual real companion working on the ship, she felt the back of her neck flush and her palms get all sweaty. It just made her so nervous to think that someone on their ship would do something like that just to earn money. It made all sorts of questions race through her mind, like did Samina enjoy it? And, wasn't it weird being all intimate with someone and getting paid for it? She just didn't understand it all.

Phoebe decided that it was probably best to perform her regular check on the engine to make sure everything was ship shape. As she examined a few of the parts she could see that it wouldn't be too long until they started needing replacement parts. She didn't exactly want to tell the Captain, knowing that he was already stressed enough about money as it was, and it only made her think about Samina's suggestion even more.

11/13/07 03:37 pm - [info]alexis_cole

Who: Lex OT Serenity crew
Where: Serenity - Cargo hold

Lex felt a mite bit funny with herself of late. It wasn't that she was at all bothered about what was going on with Arina. Heck, never was a time in her life where she weren't running to or from something, and she never expected it to change. Just made a difference that it was someone else's misfortune. She liked Arina, and she felt badly that she had this stuff put in her body, but in the grand scheme if things, that wasn't what was making her feel perculiar.

No, what was making her head spin was the fact that she had kissed Mikal. Weren't like her to do something like that and just leave it. Normally Lex would have expected the kiss to lead somewhere, normally gotten intoxicated, and had very blurry memories for the night before on the morning after, then made some sort of joke about her conquest. But for once, she was being almost ladylike in her pursuit of the mercenary, and it certainly felt strange.

She had figured on some weight lifting to try and take her mind off things, but truth be told it was only making her think on him more. Seemed like nothing she did could distract her. Was this it now? Was she gonna turn into some moon brained love sick pup? She didn't like the sound of that one little bit. Resting the weights, she sat up, and took a towel to wipe the sweat form her forehead.

11/12/07 09:25 pm - [info]karin_walden - Dave's Flying Whoreship?

Who: Karin, Dave, Phoebe, Samina
Where: Walden
What: Samina proposes a plan...

Karin sat in the kitchen, contemplating the situation they were in over a cup of tea.

Phoebe entered the kitchen, wondering if she could find another oat bar to take to Yon. She wasn't sure if any one had looked at purchasing any more yet, and hoped that the ship had gotten more supplies. On entering the kitchen she saw Karin, and gave her a smile and a friendly wave.

Dave was currently rummaging in the cabinets -- as it turned out, they had managed to pick up some supplies, not that it did his peace of mind much good.

"Hi Phoebe - how are you?" Karin asked.

'Cause salvage ships aren't sexy... )

11/11/07 02:25 am - [info]miss_fortunate - Disturbing images

Who: Arina ot Jayne , anyone else who comes calling
Where: Arina and Jayne's shuttle on Serenity

Arina sat on the bed, holding the copy of the data disc in her hand.

She partially wanted to see what was on it - the documentation, and the visuals, of what had been done to her.

And partly, she did not want to know.

It was a tough decision to make. To look meant that she might understand better - and if they studied the information on the disc, they might know more about what they needed to do to keep safe in this dreadful situation. But to know that they'd put that stuff into her.. that poison... that it could still be in her system, even... it was just disturbing and terribly frightening to think of.

"To look or not to look, that is the question..."

Arina flopped down on the bed, still unable to decide on the answer.

11/8/07 03:11 am - [info]in_the_mod - Big Damn Log: Meeting with Mr. Universe

unmentionable hacks... )

11/3/07 05:49 pm - [info]in_the_mod - You've got male

Who: Mark OT anyone
Where: Outside of Serenity

The emissary from Mr. Universe was as nondescript as nondescript could be. Mark was a twelve-year-old kid who was being paid for his services with a datadisc. It was awful hard to get hold of adventure holosims this far out in the Black, and all he had to do to get his was to deliver a message. Pretty simple, really. Right?

It had taken him a while -- not to find the ships, because there weren't too many places where a Firefly, a mass-hauler, a light cargo craft, and a ... squid ship would park on the same planet as each other, let alone within a few hundred feet. The tricky part was finding the crews. Mark didn't have the patience to tromp all over Ferris looking for the people, so he just sat outside of the Firefly and waited patiently for anyone who looked like they didn't belong on this planet to come sidling up.

Wouldn't take too long, right?

10/31/07 08:52 pm - [info]samina_chang - Going shopping

Who: Samina, hopefully Mai, but if not, anyone who wants to go shopping.
Where: Starting on the Walden, moving further afield eventually.

Happy to find herself on land once more, Samina had the urge to go out and spend what few credits she had left on restocking her home comforts. She desperately needed some more tea, not to mention items such as inccense, and various beauty products that helped her maintain the belief that her skin was defying the effects of aging.

Wondering who would be available for a short walk to a few retail outlets, she started by knocking on Mai's door. She had grown to admire and respect the medic since her arrival on the Walden, and more than enjoyed the time they spent together. She thought perhaps Mai would be the most likely to accept an incitation for a spot of retail therapy.

10/28/07 05:04 pm - [info]miss_fortunate - Walking Downtown...

Who: Arina ,Jayne anyone else who wants to jump in!
Where: Planetside!

Arina breathed in the nice, fresh air and looked around the town. Here and there she saw the folks from other ships she hadn't seen in a long time, and stopped to wave or chat. It was nice to all get together again, though she was very worried about the circumstances.

In order to try and relax, her and Jayne were headed downtown to a hotel for a nice bath and a night's stay before they had to meet up with Mr. Universe tomorrow.

"I hope we find a nice place to say," she said to her husband as they walked.

10/27/07 11:29 pm - [info]alexis_cole - The sky at night

Who: Lex, OT anyone
Where: Planetside, thank GOD

Lex was beyond happy they had landed. If she were so inclined, she'd have probably kissed the ground on leaving the ship. She'd been out in the black for longer, but this time it had felt like such a burden. She figured she needed to go out, chase some tail and probably get wasted. It had been more than a while since she'd last done so, however for once she didn't feel quite so inclined. Instead she had dug out her bottle of rice wine she'd been saving and just settled herself out on the ground for some alone time.

The sunset she had watched had been one of the most beautiful she'd seen in a long time. She had enjoyed the fact that she'd been allowed to enjoy it by herself. As much as Lex got on with most of the crew, there was something stifling about being stuck on a ship with the same people for so long, and she had needed a little time away from them all to feel like herself again.

Now the sky was black, just like it was up in space, but somehow the stars seemed so much brighter from down on the ground. She lay on the earth with her bottle of rice wine beside her, just watching the tiny lights flicker and burn.

10/27/07 02:58 am - [info]shane_bryant - Plastic asses for the masses... (aka drinking)

Who: MJ, Morrigan, Eddie, Shay, Zach, Leah
Where: Starflare, then The Watering Hole (a bar in town)
When: Right after this post

MJ held Morrigan's hand, and couldn't stop smiling at her. He was very happy.

Shay finished taking care of the docking fee and looked up just in time to see the happy couple.

Morrigan was pretty darned happy, too. "So, are you going to put this thing on me?" she asked, holding up the cartridge case.

"Huh," he said, scratching his head as he walked passed. He stopped, did an about face wondering if his former-mercs-turned-crew were holding hands.

Did you know? Did everyone? )

10/26/07 05:02 pm - [info]there_is_no_mj - Starflare (Shortly after landing)

Who: MJ OT Morrigan and anyone
Where: Starflare lounge

MJ was glad to see that his package was there, and the contents were just as he expected. He quickly hid the contents in a clip case, and wished himself luck.

This would be either very good, or very bad... he wasn't sure which. The others on the ship didn't know too much about him and Morrigan, and he kind of liked it that way. This would probably change things a bit if things happened proper. He figured that it wouldn't matter as long as they didn't share much, right.

MJ waited in the lounge for a moment that he could share with Morrigan alone.

10/18/07 06:44 pm - [info]izzy_a_shadow - Serenity

Who: Izzy OT anyone
Where: Serenity Lounge

Izzy was a little restless since Arina read the tarot cards. She didn't think she'd be the one to betray everyone... she hoped. Serenity was pretty much her family. She might not have met them the best way, but now she had her brother and the rest of the crew. They took her in like family even though she tried stealing from one of their own.

They put up with that messy business with Lance... but everything was fine now, right? She reminded herself not to steal after they landed, and to be good on the cortex. She busied herself with checking the comm devices, and making sure they'd have no problems with them after landing.

10/18/07 08:41 pm - [info]luckimechanic - Robot Parts Anyone?

Who: Lucki OT Anyone
When: Thursday evening
Where: Starflare, Lucki's workroom

With the ever present cigarette dangling from her lips, dark locks swept up in a messy ponytail, Lucinda Romani had a block of free time on her hands. A block that wasn't about to go to waste. A whiney growl was heard throughout the corridor from the room she had gotten permission to use by Eddie and the captain as she took an electric saw to various metal parts that needed refitting and work. Sparks flew as the saw made contact and the ones that flew up darn close to the cancerous stick in her mouth didn't seem to overly concern her. Reckless? Probably.

On the work table behind her lay other parts of metal and machinery. Some even looked to vaguely resemble a hand, various appendages to a hand, foot, part of a leg. Lucki's progress on her personal pet project was slow to say the least. And expensive for the parts she needed, although for the most part welding the various components she'd collected over the years seemed to working well so far. It was the computerized components that were so gorram expensive and practically non-negotiable in price. But, in order for this project to work, one needed to work with the best.

10/13/07 04:29 pm - [info]little_yon - Landing on Banyon

Who: Yon ot all
Where: Walden
What: Walden lands on Banyon

"Annnnd we're down," Yon announced over the intercom as he landed the ship. "Welcome to Banyon, everyone."

It had been a smooth landing- not that all of his landings weren't usually, but this one had gone extremely easy if he did say so himself. He'd spotted the Jupiter docked nearby as he'd pulled in, so he knew they were already there. Jenny was a fine pilot.

But he hadn't seen Serenity or Starflare on the approach. They probably hadn't arrived yet, Yon mused. He felt a certain amount of pride in Walden having beaten them in, even though truthfully he knew it was due to logistics (they'd been closer) more than anything else. Walden was a fine enough ship for salvage, but she wasn't built for speed.

Yon took care of the few remaining tasks- sending their call to port authority and getting a final approval confirmation before shutting things down. The captain would take care of paying the credits for their docking fee and finding out any local information they needed to know.

Yon's work here was done. He stretched as he got up from his chair, pondering the options. Get out and explore the town, or stay on board a while longer until Cap settled business so he didn't get roped into any more work. Decisions, decisions...
